In August 2022, we opened a Help Centre, a Financial Inclusion project offering guidance on all areas of wellbeing, including Financial Wellbeing, to anyone requesting support. Our aim is to intervene before people suffer the indignity of not being able to afford the basics. We offer guidance to anyone requesting support regardless of their race, background, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, political and religious views. Since then we have helped over 1000 people and made approximately £750,000 of financial gains for them.

As a charity we work towards forging community resilience financially, socially and emotionally. As the national crises of recent years have affected our community drastically, the support we offer has escalated. At present, the support we offer has reached capacity due to the limitations of the premises we rent.

Planning permission has already been granted and we are currently out to tender.  See architect plans below. Left: Ground Floor & Right: First Floor

Since late 2023 we’ve been working with architects - Mark Waghorn Designs Ltd from Llandeilo. They’ve helped us marry the needs of our service users and projects with the requirements of the Planning authority; after a lengthy application process, in March 2025 we were granted full planning permission. Since then work has been underway to refine the plans, explore the site further and put the contract out to tender with local companies.

Meanwhile, we’ve been looking to granting bodies to help cover the cost. We’re very grateful to the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities Programme in awarding us £300,000 toward the project. Also to Trussell for awarding a further £30,000. Adding in donations specifically for the building and so far we have raised just shy of £400,000. We continue to apply to other funders to share our vision and seek financial support to make it a reality. Our goal is £1.5 million.

Heard - not overheard

How you can help

Our planned new premises would enable us to develop and expand the support we already offer as a charity.

There is nothing like it in our area - a service that harnesses the support of multiple agencies, making access to in-person support easily accessible, and ensuring that vulnerable people are valued and heard. Partner organisations would be able to book our premises for drop-in sessions and workshops, 50% of whom have stated they would book to use space in our building at least once per month with the remainder preferring access on an Ad-hoc basis. We would encourage local community groups to work from our premises. We are located in the centre of the town with the bus station and parking nearby.

We rent our current premises for two days a week. A fit-for-purpose premises would be accessible to all and give us the potential to develop our services by:

  • Extending our opening hours.

  • Extending multi-agency support.

  • Hosting more organisations that give drop in support to compliment the support we offer.

  • Hosting more community groups

  • Organising/hosting more workshops

  • Having more volunteers, allowing further opportunity for development.

More importantly, a bespoke building would provide a welcoming community area with confidential spaces for the stories of our Service Users to be heard, but not overheard.

There are two simple ways to support our project:

1. Make a donation here

Every pledge gets us closer to our goal. Early support can help build momentum and inspire others to give too.

2. Spread the word

Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. The more people we reach, the more likely we are to succeed.

FAQs

  • We looked at all that have been available in the last number of years with a view to moving in and making that space work.

The old Barclays Bank, Amman Centre, Bethany Chapel and the Crown Building behind Iceland as well as the old COOP/Poundstretcher to name a few.

However, with the needs of our service users foremost, where a building was in better condition the access of internal layout wasn’t supportive of the people we serve (e.g. the bank was split over 4 floors with very steep stairs & no space for a lift). Where the floor space was sufficient, the state of the building we were told would have cost more to fix with more red tape than to start from scratch designing a bespoke space that suits the needs of our clients.

  • All of the money spent on this project is from grants or donations given directly to the building project, no other funds have been used. All our finances are tightly controlled & we’re audited each year before filing with Charities Commission to ensure as such. All financial records are available on their website.

  • It’s not about us - it’s about listening to the people using our services, living in the area, and meeting the needs they’ve raised.

Every year we anonymously survey anyone that’s used our services to find out what we do well & what can be improved. As a result of a few years' worth of answers we’re needing to relocate our work. Read below for a fuller answer.
